The greater the artist, the greater the doubt; perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize." Robert Hughes, Time Magazine
Yeah, that's what I was thinking about after I wrote it. It's pretty hard though to not be a hippocrate, everyone is. I just hate those people though that constantly come up to and are all ' I had a vision of Jesus.' And ' If you don't believe in the holy christ your soul shall be damned hell.' It really gets old, that's why I put it up there.
well, according to christianity, if you don't believe in god, then your soul actually is damned to hell. I mean... they're not just making crap up. that's one of the reasons people are so devoted to religion, because according to most religions, they tell you what's going to happen after you die. which is a very very very long time. makes this life seem like a speck you know? I can understand that if someone truly believed that they've found a way to heaven instead of hell, they'd want to tell everyone about it. because honestly, if I knew what was right and I didn't go around telling people, I'd be hiding a pretty important secret from the world. I don't mean to rant here (keep in mind, I'm agnostic), but there is a lot to be said for religious people that most people don't stop to consider. I myself can put up with the occasional jahovah's witness knocking on my door, or the occasional preacher telling me about heaven and hell. the important part is that I haven't turned all angsty and close minded about the subject of religion, if anything, those people have made me think harder about it all. personally, I'd love to believe in a god, but I'm just not sure which religion is right.
it just makes me sick to hear people lash out at religious folks for wanting to share what they've learned with the world. I see a lot of people who run at the sight of a bible and honestly, if there is a hell, those are the kind of people that are going to end up there.
imagine though, if one day you get hit by a car and die and when you open your eyes, you are burning alive in a literal lake of fire eternally cut off from everything you've ever known in the presense of satan himself. I just don't want to hear you say "shit, they were right. well... I'm douched"
all I'm saying is that religion is much much more than a crutch to help people cope with life. it means somethign much much more than life, it means eternity. it means absolutely everything to them.
so to sum up, I'd like to see more people realize that there is a lot worth considering about religion in general. picking a religion to go with on the other hand, is the question I'm currently wrestling with.
I understand what your saying. I mean, like back when Charlemagne was king, and he was trying to convert the anglo-saxons to christiandom, he wasn't doing it in hate, he was doing it because he wanted to save there souls, because to him, god was real. And when he murdered then, all in one wave of his hand, he beheaded hundreds, he thought he was doing the right thing. I understand that, I always try to look at two sides of a story. But to me, religion is like a myth that we use to hide the fact that we are SO small and unimportant to the universe, that at this moment if the world blinked out of existence, it wouldn't matter. To me, what I think, is we created god to soothe are elves from this, from not knowing, and that bothers me. For a person all the lives to just do as a book would tell them, and to never think of something more that we could never comprehend, its so hard for me to understand. And sometimes, I wish I could be niave, I wish I could believe I new the after life and that everything was planned on my goals through life. I wish I had faith. I understand how they say that religions gives you warmth and comfort. But I can't hide myself from such things, and I have made it my life plan to try to understand the science and awe of the universe, and how we may never be able to understand.
To me I can't stand when people try to change someones beliefs, even when they have good intentions, because they don't have rule over someone elses life.
That is what I believe.

well, I can see this is pointless, so I won't bother going on.
I'm just sorry that you won't consider it, when so much could rely on your choice.
